With DILLIMAX, a fine-grained mild steel, the Dillinger steelworks GTS has a steel that can be used universally. Due to its alloying and especially the quenching in water with subsequent tempering, this steel becomes very strong but it is also very lightweight. It is a tough mild steel and can also be used for percussive exposure.
Bending and folding with these steels is possible up to specific radii without crack formation. Due to its low carbon content, it can be welded with any conventional type of welding, and under suitable circumstances plates up to 20 mm thick can be welded without preheating. Shielding gas welding (MIG/MAG) is recommended by the manufacturer for preferential use.
The wear resistant steel is produced in grades DILLIMAX 500 / 550 / 690 / 890 / 965 and 1100. The differentiating features are the respective tensile strength of the steel. The tensile test is a material test method to determine the yield strength, the tensile strength or the elongation at failure. The workpiece is deliberately brought to failure by uniform, impact-free and slow elongation (strain).
Apart from DILLIMAX 1100, all grades are each divided into 3 quality classes (basic quality B, low-temperature quality T and low-temperature quality E). They differ in terms of the minimum values of the notched bar impact work.
The notched bar test is a material test method to determine the toughness (ductility) properties of materials (heated or cooled) by means of percussive loading.
DILLIMAX 500 / 550 / 690 / 890 and 965 are primarily used in mechanical engineering, plant construction (e.g. conveyors/materials handling systems), structural steelwork and above all in welded steel structures such as bridges or even lock gates. DILLIMAX 1100 is primarily used in constructions in which the weight must be reduced significantly, for example, in lifting machines or cranes.
Dillimax steel grades are available in the following sheet and plate thicknesses:
- Grade 500 / 550
6 to 150 mm
- Grade 690
10 to 200 mm
- Grade 890 / 965
10 to 100 mm
- Grade 1100
10 to 30 mm
A speciality is DILLIMAX TL. This special steel is produced in sheet and plate thicknesses from 8 to 40 mm. It is a specification of the DILLIMAX 690, 890, 965 and 1100 grades and their respective quality classes. TL is primarily used in constructions in which the weight must be reduced significantly, for example, for crane jigs.
